It's a sad day

Well, we had a funeral today. Cutie Pie, the Library fish, died. He was going on four years old. We've done lots to save him. (See earlier posts.) But for the last month, he's been puny. We diagnosed swim bladder disease and treated it. He was doing well but not super peppy. He's gotten droopier and droopier. For the last three days, he's lain on the bottom. He's moved around some and eaten but...Today was the day, we said goodbye to him. I finally told him that it was alright to go (truly.) So he kind of gasped and that was that. We lined a little wooden box and dug a hole by the waterfall and buried him. It was a sad service. I know that it's hard to believe but that little fish was smart and funny. He knew us and he responded to us. We'll miss having him. His tank sat on the counter to the right side of my monitor and I could watch him. It looks very sad now. We'll get another but there will never be another Cutie Pie.
